Brief Bio

I first learned oil painting at Studio Four in Chicago with George Soto.  This image was my first oil painting taken from Arizona Highways Magazine.

Because of my love of icons, I took a course on Icon painting with Father Jim Obermeyer in Phoenix a few years ago, Although I appreciate the beauty and discipline of iconologists, it is not the course I wanted to follow.  The imagery (or parts of)  I have used is often taken from old icons, as well as images of people in my life,  friends and relatives.

I enjoy the environment of living and painting in the desert. Many of the Saints that inspire me lived and died in harsh conditions. They stoically endured a very austere life, many who had once had affluence, and gave it up for service to Christ. Researching Saints is part of the fulfillment of my painting. When I discover a Saint that draws me in, I want to share and honor them. Mystics and Martyrs and humble people who knew who they wanted to serve. I pray do them justice.

Additionally, I paint furniture, old pieces of wood and make nichos .
